Things to Check During the Weeks After Moving Day
The most exciting day of a house purchase is closing day. This is the day on which you get ownership of the property and, in most situations, move in. However, the procedure is not always complete. There are still a few critical items to attend to in the weeks and months after the transfer.
For instance, it’s prudent to ensure that you get all of your mail. Ideally, you will have arranged with the post office to have your mail forwarded to your new address prior to your relocation. That service, though, will soon disappear. A word of advice: Introduce yourself to the new owners of the property where you previously resided. Inquire whether they would mind retaining any of your mail that has been delivered unintentionally to them, and make plans to pick it up occasionally. They are likely to be unconcerned.
Additionally, in the weeks after the transfer, you should attend to any repairs or other maintenance concerns found before purchasing the property. These difficulties are easy to overlook during the hectic days leading up to moving day and the thrill of settling in. You don’t want them to escalate into larger problems in the future.
