Putting a Price on Memories
On a sunny Saturday morning, you visit a garage sale and you find a bicycle you think is perfect for your kid. When you check the price tag and it’s about twice the amount you ‘d expect to pay for it. When you ask the owner, he says, “That bike has a lot of sentimental value. For less, I couldn’t let this go.”
Chances are, you ‘re going to pass the bike on. The owner sees the bike and remembers happily teaching his daughter to ride it. What you see is only a motorbike! You can’t buy the memories of another.
Sometimes that scenario plays out in real estate. A landlord has a fond memory of his home. He may have himself renovated the den, and is proud of his work. He may delight in memories on the deck of family BBQs.
It does not mean the house is going to sell for more than their market value.
So when you put your property onto the market, make sure that emotions don’t get in the way of properly pricing it.
Luckily memories stay with you, even without your house. You will be able to happily take them with you to your next home. If you’re looking for accurate market value for your home, contact us at 401-396-2888 for a free valuation. We’re always glad to help!
